Embattled President Trump just held a press conference with President Juan Manuel Santos of Colombia, and almost on cue made a fool of himself in a number of ways.
His opening remarks, as usual, heavily featured his efforts to continue the failed “war on drugs” and how we need a wall, and how we’re going to work with Colombia to stop the production of… cocoa.
“Cocoa” is the delicious seed that we use to make chocolate. “Coca” is the plant whose leaves are used to make cocaine.
He repeated “cocoa” several times, indicating that his knowledge of basic botany is as poor as his skill at governance.
An increasingly unhinged Trump went on to make several absurd statements, some true, some not…This is true.
This is not.
He also addressed a reporter who wasn’t present…
He said that firing Director Comey was a “bipartisan” decision even though he unilaterally made the decision without any input from anybody else.
And was immediately fact-checked by MSNBC’s chyron:
He described the Affordable Care Act as a fallacy, proving once again that the foreign leader standing to his right has a better grasp of the English language as a whole.
Trump then went on into his usual stream of consciousness rambling in which he took credit for President Obama’s job numbers and took credit for the success of the plan that the Obama Administration drew up to combat the Islamic State (and which was delayed by his National Security Advisor on behalf of a foreign power), in between his usual string of outrageous lies.
Trump is about to embark on a three-nation foreign trip – his first of his presidency – but he just proved once again that he can’t be trusted to appear in front of a camera and not make a fool of himself.
