We are living in interesting times. There is no way that we can hope to open the newspaper in the morning and hope to see a banal headline anymore. Every day is more drama and every day is a new ‘interesting’ headline. Donald Trump has been making all kinds of departures from the foreign alignments that are in place – some, like our patronage and close ties with Vietnam, is decades old and have survived a few presidents and some, like our new alignment with India to counter Islamic Middle east and China, has been brought about by the last administration. These changes in American postures could tilt the balance of the world. Should Vietnam decide to align itself with China and should Trump start encouraging Pakistan again, there will be hell to pay. His recent conversation with the Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen has been a sore spot since the news broke. China, though circumspect, has been making the right kind of noise when it comes to the honoring of the One China Policy. NATO is already cold, though warming up to Donald Trump. With all this going on we are bound to ask if you think all this is just posturing or is it a precursor of the Trump foreign policy. Close this
