Getting people drug tested before offering them help in form of Social Security is an idea that has very strong emotions on both sides. Some feel that their tax dollars are being spent in providing assistance to those who really need it and some feel that their money is being spent to fuel someone's drug habit. The simple fact of the matter is that those states who have tried to implement the mandatory drug test have either failed in doing so or their experiment fell flat on its face. Even if tons of welfare recipients were using their measly checks as weed rolling papers, drug testing programs can't seem to find them. Tennessee is the latest example of a state where a drug testing program yielded almost comically poor results. A year after the state started testing all applicants for a welfare program for families with kids, they ended up denying assistance to around 30 people -- out of 28,559 who applied, reported WMOT. What do you think? would it be implemented? Is there is an upside to it? Close this
